About us

Our mission

Rooted’s mission is to connect Texans with Texas farmers who are selflessly working to build a more resilient local food economy. In practical terms that means we connect Texas’ best 100% grass-fed and finished beef, pastured chicken, and pastured pork producers with customers who want a healthier, more delicious and ethical meat.

How we started

“Good farmers, who take seriously their duties as stewards of Creation and of their land's inheritors, contribute to the welfare of society in more ways than society usually acknowledges, or even knows. These farmers produce valuable goods, of course; but they also conserve soil, they conserve water, they conserve wildlife, they conserve open space, they conserve scenery.” Wendell Berry

Anthony and I started Rooted with one clear goal in mind: to help support & build back the agrarian economy of Texas. As we’ve both gone on our personal journeys of learning about regenerative farming, nutrition, and living locally, we always come back to the same conclusion: society as a whole will never get back to health without a wholesale change in the way consumers view local, small-scale farmers & their products.

Farmers who love their land, who take seriously their duty as “stewards of Creation”, produce food that emanates with health & vitality. When a culture does not value farmers who love their land & work, does not create financial and cultural conditions for them to thrive, the downstream effect always becomes disease & ecological disruption.

Desperate farmers trying to make ends meet go to desperate ends to survive. Their work is understandably full of fear, which means cutting corners, using chemicals, disrupting the soil, and only producing cash crops subsidized by the national government. Many of these crops many are not even consumed in America, let alone Texas. This is terrible for our health. This is terrible for the future of our state.

As Texans who believe in a future of health & wholeness, we’ve committed ourselves to getting to the root of the problem: helping farmers to live dignified lives on a generational timeline, which practically means helping farmers to sell their food at respectable prices to Texans who care about quality, nutrient dense meats, and supporting local.

If we want our children and our land to be healthy, to exist into perpetuity, we must put our money where our mouth is and support the farmers who give their lives to producing healthy, natural, delicious Texas food.

That’s what we are doing at Rooted. We make it easy for anyone to support the Texas food producers doing the necessary work to build back a more resilient, healthy Texas. We let farmers worry about farming to the highest standard, and take care of everything else. Thanks for supporting us & Texas farmers across the state.
